Yesterday, I was caught off-guard by a friend of mine asking questions about faith. I hadn't seen the conversation coming and was unprepared. I answered her questions as best I could. Hoping to provide information and comfort. I don't have a bunch of Bible verses memorized, nor can I easily name off where certain issues are addressed. But I said a quick prayer for guidance, then responded to the best of my ability.

One thing that came up, was her family member's comments about "being a good person". While that is a wonderful thing - it's not THE thing. As noted.....
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." ~Ephesians 2:8-9
We can be the kindest, gentlest, most caring & dedicated to helping others. But that isn't what saves us (spiritually speaking). We are saved by grace. By Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Nothing we do can guarantee us a spot in Heaven.
"He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." ~Acts 16:30-31
That's it? In a nutshell. We accept the gift offered to us.... we believe that Jesus is the son of God, sent to Earth to live and die in order to save us. We admit that we are sinners and ask His forgiveness. 'Good works' are a wonderful thing. We should desire to do good and help others. But that is not the way into Heaven. We don't have to "earn" our place there.

She said that she felt a little better after talking with me. I don't know if I was able to provide the information that she was looking for, or even offer much comfort.... but I tried. And encouraged her to speak to a pastor who would be much more knowledgeable about the Bible. Someone who could swiftly point out where the answers are to her questions.

I felt grateful that God had used me to share some of His Word with her. And I hope that I didn't let Him down.

Happy Sunday, all! Remember what's truly important today - and it isn't the Super Bowl! LOL
